A toilet overflow is a common occurrence in homes and businesses today. These sometimes embarrassing moments could end up costing you more than you think if not handled properly. As your toilet overflows, water has the possibility of seeping into the floor and walls causing damage to the interior of your home and in not mitigated and dried properly will cause high levels of bacterial growth to spread. Yet, taking the proper steps could help save you excess costs in the end.

If you’re experiencing a toilet overflow, there a two common reasons: the drain is clogged or your floater is allowing too much water to enter the tank. If your drain is clogged – fully or partially – you will want to use a plunger or auger to help drain the pipe. As you begin to plunge, ensure that the suction is firmly attached to the bottom of the toilet bowl and being to pump. This will help release any standing water than may be in your drain. Additionally, you can purchase an auger to assist with the drainage. This tool goes deep into the drain, loosening any build up there may be and attaches itself to any material that may be causing the backup, such as a rag or tissue.

However, if the toilet overflow is due to a floater, you will need to find the instrument that controls the height of the floater. The key is to set the device lower in the water and test out the position. As the water begins to fill, it should stop filling before the water line. However, if it continues to fill, lower the floater again until it’s at the correct level. If you continue to experience toilet overflow, contact Bloomfield Construction to help with the repair.
